Today a website can make or break your company and consumers want access to all of your information whether it’s through their mobile device or home computer. Now is the time to fully take charge of an intuitive and responsive website design that can conform to the needs of consumers. In conjunction with a responsive website design, you must also take into consideration a quality content management system (CMS) that can effectively host and run all the components of your site.

  1. Transition. You must make sure your website can be compatible in all forms – mobile, tablet and computer friendly. What this means is that you want a beautifully designed interface that can handle all the facets involved with your website. You want the responsive design to have easy navigation on the computer version and carry that design to the mobile platform. A smaller screen means your computer version must shrink without losing its’ appeal. Imagine if a user is checking out your site on their smartphone and later revisits it again on their personal computer. You want that transition to be as seamless as possible for a positive user-experience.
  2. One Single Content Management System. Managing your website with specific SEO strategies should be streamlined into one, quality content management system. Keeping track of various campaigns with a mobile CMS and a website CMS can cause some issues down the road because if you do not keep both campaigns unified, each will struggle in their own way. For example, if you only have your mobile CMS utilize the keywords “nearby” or “near me” (which most mobile users type into search engines while on the go), you could be missing traffic on your website from users using their personal computers.
  3. Competition. Among all of the other things to stay ahead of competitors like advertisements and branding, adding a responsive design will further improve your footing. Not only will your website stand out, but users will enjoy visiting your site compared to others. The next step to take is to find a web design company in Philadelphia that can draw up a plan that suits your needs!

Search engines are the starting point for a consumer and having a responsive, beautiful and high-quality design will surely put you at the top of their searches.

What catches your eye? Is it vibrant colors? How about bold and busy patterns? We live in a world where visuals are the foundation of everything – from food to clothes to the colors of our cars. Think about all the things you see in a day and reflect on what stood out. Some can immediately be remembered – think of a billboard you drove by or a wrapper on a candy bar. Any of these images we can remember had something bold about them providing that connection, and that makes for a great marketing campaign.

The use of great photography and imagery can really explode the use of a brand because it has the power to be remembered and grab someone’s attentions. It’s becoming increasingly difficult for companies to stand out in the terms of advertising because we live in such a busy world that logos and signs can sometimes just blend in together. Having a show stopping advertisement will most definitely grab the attention of anyone who catches it. The use of strong photography and imagery works in all aspects of marketing – online and in-person.

No matter the channel you are trying to leverage, a powerful image will help you capture the attention you seek. Impressive photos in emails will keep readers interested, bold and vibrant images on social media will keep eyes glued to you and remarkable photo assets on printed materials will be rewarding. Take for example a busy city where there’s a large amount of marketing potential that could reach millions of people. Experienced marketing companies in Philadelphia know how to reach people through printed signage on buildings, banners on public transportation and commercials local television stations. The options are limitless when it comes to an effective marketing strategy and utilizing powerful and strong photography will increase the odds of standing out.

The staggering fact that one in three women will be diagnosed with cancer in her lifetime is something we cannot ignore. On Saturday, September 13, 2014, this harsh reality will unite survivors and supporters during the 17th annual Women’s Cancer Walk by City of Hope Philadelphia. The Women’s Cancer Walk is a national movement that unites survivors and supporters—women, men and children—in the fight against women’s cancers. This year, the Walk is dedicated to Gi Cunningham. Cunningham was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2000 and became a staunch supporter of City of Hope, raising thousands of dollars. Cunningham is remembered fondly by many, who look forward to walk in her memory.Screen shot 2014-08-18 at 11.43.21 AM

The walk is a great opportunity to raise funds for continued groundbreaking research, treatment and education at City of Hope and to raise overall awareness for breast and gynecologic cancer. “For hundreds of thousands who face women’s cancers each year, hope is a precious thing,“ said City of Hope Philadelphia Senior Director of Development Harry Giordano. “These mothers, daughters, sisters and wives count on places like City of Hope, where award-winning care offers the chance to overcome disease and innovative research cultivates new, better therapies on the path to cures.”

A parade of purple will fill the streets with an outpouring of hope as the walkers travel from Campbell’s Field (401 Delaware Ave., Camden), across the Benjamin Franklin Bridge, to Arch Street Meeting House (320 Arch St., Philadelphia). Registration, t-shirt pick-up, team photos, hair streaking, survivors’ tent and healthy snacks will begin festivities at 8:00am. Fitness instructors from SWEAT Fitness will lead group warm-ups and stretching, followed by the dedication ceremony. The Walk will officially start at 10:00am with stops for snacks, family fun and a Mummer’s performance scattered throughout.  Adults can register for $25 and $15 for children (12 and under) at www.womenscancerwalk.org. Walkers are welcome to register individually or as a team. Awards will be given to the top fundraisers.

Women’s Cancer Walk is organized by City of Hope Philadelphia with support from platinum sponsor Sweat Fitness, as well as Old City District. This cause is near and dear to me, as my mother didn’t survive her battle with cancer,” said Old City District’s Brett Mapp. “Additionally, it is great to see that the walk will end in Old City District after taking walkers on a tour of the neighborhood. I am thrilled to also see our businesses like Sweat, and Arch Street Meeting House embracing this important cause.”

Walk registration is open now at www.womenscancerwalk.org. For more information, call 800-344-8169 toll free (or 215-985-0869), follow @CityofHopePhila on Twitter and like City of Hope Philadelphia Office on Facebook. Share the story of why you walk by using the hashtag #whyiwalk on Twitter.

As if Pinterest has not sparked enough conversation for creative social media already, they have now created their own messaging feature. Now, with over a fifth of American adults using Pinterest, the popular social media platform has made numerous additions to the site (Pew Research Center). Beginning last year, Pinterest allowed users to send pins to friends within their own networks. A few weeks ago users were sending over 2 million pins per day with no way to reply to the sender. That is where the Messages feature comes in!

pinterestMuch more than a quick hello, the new conversation feature allows users to create dialogue about a pin that interests both parties. Not only does the chat-like service have the potential to blow Twitter and Facebook messenger out of the water, it showcases Pinterest’s evolution from public scrapbook to multi-faceted social network for sharing information publicly and privately.

The question, however, is why is Messages a great addition to Pinterest? Simple, because anything you can do with a pin, you can do within the messaging tool. This includes pinning on a board, sending to a friend(s), like it or drag from another site to your own message thread, all of which makes this the most advanced social media messaging tool yet. Available in both web and mobile forms, users can keep conversations going by sharing discoveries in real-time.

img_53e2fa07e9ba3Pinterest’s true goal of the Messages service is to empower the way people utilize the platform by not replacing the Pin Boards, but enhancing the platform as a whole. In addition to chatting with friends, Messages lets users move past the old email notifications to more productive, straightforward discussions for project planning. Traveling advice, cooking tips, networking, gift buying, trade tips, wedding planning, home buying and decorating are a few of the ways Messages can be utilized between groups of friends. Reinforced by group exchange, this easy communication leads to action, which increases Pinners’ purchase intent.

There is no doubt Pinterest has grown rapidly over the past few years, but according to the Pew Research Center they are now more popular than Twitter.  With the additional Messages feature, Pinterest is challenging Facebook and Twitter to up their game even more and teaching the industry how a company can build communication within a platform by emphasizing utility instead of novelty.

The bottom line is everyone will be sharing discoveries, planning projects and swapping ideas on the best messaging tool to date. Watch out Facebook and Twitter, Pinterest is inspiring creativity and conversation for the masses.

Is it just us or is everyone dumping buckets of ice water on their heads? This isn’t just a dare – it’s the “Ice Bucket Challenge” to raise awareness for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, also known as ALS or Lou Gehrig’s disease.

The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge can be traced to Boston native Pete Frates, the former Boston College baseball captain who was diagnosed with Lou Gehrig’s disease two years ago. The disease is doing its work: Pete Frates is now confined to a wheelchair and his ability to speak has abandoned him. Yet he continues to be a leader in the ALS community by raising money, raising awareness, raising hope.

(Pictured above: Ex-Boston College player Pete Frates, with his father John and brother Andrew.)

ALS is a disease of the nerve cells and spinal cord that controls voluntary muscle movement. Those who suffer from the disease experience muscle weakness, twitching, little to no use of their arms and legs and difficulty speaking, breathing and swallowing. The disease is also named for the famous baseball player Lou Gehrig, who died of the illness in 1941. According to the ALS Association, approximately 5,600 people are diagnosed with the illness every year.

Here is how the “Ice Bucket Challenge” works. If you are nominated, you make a short film of yourself dumping a bucket of ice water over your head and then issue the challenge to others. This challenge must be completed within 24 hours or the person must donate $100 dollars to the ALS Association. But with this phenomenon taking over, there has been a huge surge of donations to the ALS Association. They said they have seen their donations quadruple over the past couple of weeks. So people are now challenging each other to dump the ice bucket and donate. Also with viral trends like this, people are more willing to participate because they do not want to be humiliated or called out for not contributing. With the tags on the videos, no one who is challenged can go un-noticed. If you are challenged the social media world will know when you do no participate in something as simple as dumping a icy cold bucket of water on your head or giving money to this worthy foundation. That’s how powerful social media can be!

Screen Shot 2014-08-11 at 1.40.07 PM

Videos will continue to pop up all over the internet throughout the next couple weeks. Viral trends help to raise awareness all the time through social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Recent trends include the NOH8 campaign, which shed some light on Proposition 8 and gave awareness to marriage equality. There is also the Purple Your Profile for the American Cancer Society campaign. This recognizes World Cancer Day, and helps to raise awareness and funds by having Chevy automobiles contributing $1 to the American Cancer Society for every Facebook or Twitter profile picture purpled.
